Who is Anthony Netto and the Stand Up and Play Foundation
Anthony V Netto, an esteemed figure in the world of golf, is an international ambassador for challenged golf and has held the title of USGTF Master Golf Teaching Professional since 1999. Hailing originally from South Africa, he has left an incredible mark on the golfing community with a series of notable accomplishments.
Among his achievements, Anthony initiated the European/American KidSwing program, played a pivotal role in training the German Disabled Golf Team, and served as Coach to the USA Golf Team at the Invictus Games Toronto 2017. Notably, he holds the current Paralong Drive World record, an impressive 350 yards achieved in the 2019 Mesquite NV Paralong Drive Cup.
Currently residing in the United States, Anthony dedicates his time to training PGA professionals, veterans, and the Mobility Challenged on utilizing golf as a therapeutic tool. His expertise extends globally as he serves as a consultant for handicapped golfers worldwide. Passionate about assisting his fellow wounded brothers and sisters, this commitment is the driving force behind every facet of his professional endeavors.
Anthony’s personal journey includes overcoming life-altering injuries suffered during his service for the SA Defense Force and a subsequent incident in 1994 involving a collision with a drunk driver, resulting in further paralysis. In May 2000, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Fueled by his own challenges, Anthony co-invented the groundbreaking all-terrain standing sports wheelchair, the Paragolfer (by Ottobock), in 2000. He went on to establish the Stand Up and Play Foundation with the vision of making Paragolfers accessible to individuals with impaired mobility worldwide.
In 2023, Anthony achieved another milestone by co-founding and developing the VertaCat, a revolutionary adaptive golf cart. The VertaCat empowers users to navigate the green independently and confidently, showcasing advanced precision technology. This innovative device not only offers mobility-challenged players the opportunity to refine their unique styles in the game but also contributes to their overall well-being, both physically and emotionally.
In recognition of his expertise and contributions, Anthony is part of the staff at USGTF as a Master Adaptive Golf Teacher since 1999- current. His involvement in adaptive golf education further solidifies his commitment to enhancing the accessibility and therapeutic benefits of golf for individuals with diverse abilities.
