New Program for Emergency Responders
Golf Therapy has proven to be an excellent way for individuals to overcome injuries, illnesses, or challenges to improve the quality of their lives and reintegrate back into society. PGA HOPE Charleston quickly became the model for Veteran’s golf therapy programs, Now, a new pilot program in Charleston is beginning to help emergency responders overcome their injuries, illnesses, or challenges suffered in the line of duty or after serving and protecting. The program is FREE to Emergency Responders as a thank you for their service.

“The Golf Therapy program has allowed us to trade nightmares and flashbacks for golf dreams and new friendships.”
Back Story: On September 25th, 2008 Charleston County Firefighter Paul Tumminia revived Rich O’Brien multiple times after a catastrophic accident in which he suffered a broken neck, broken back, four skull fractures, and brain damage in every lobe of his brain. On that day, Paul fought hard to keep Rich alive against all odds. This program is our way of saying thank you to the HEROES that serve and protect our communities.
Meanwhile, the other co-founder of the program is retired firefighter Josh Swindel who had a paralyzing injury sixteen years ago in the line of duty. For Josh, this is a way to help his fellow emergency responders that have been injured.

The Stand Up and Play Foundation
Is composed of individuals who donate their time and efforts to make active standing therapy a reality for everyone who uses a wheelchair. Accomplishing our mission requires traveling to potential sites, training volunteers, and purchasing supplies and equipment such as Paramobile units, standing frames, adaptive sports equipment, and much more. Your financial support will help us form an adaptive sports chapter in your community or in an underserved community. We need your help to expand our current programs and to form new ones.
