Helping Emergency Responders Overcome

New Program for Emergency Responders

Golf Therapy has proven to be an excellent way for individuals to overcome injuries, illnesses, or challenges to improve the quality of their lives and reintegrate back into society. PGA HOPE Charleston quickly became the model for Veteran’s golf therapy programs, Now, a new pilot program in Charleston is beginning to help emergency responders overcome their injuries, illnesses, or challenges suffered in the line of duty or after serving and protecting. The program is FREE to Emergency Responders as a thank you for their service.

Day/Dates/Time
Saturday, July 10th 0900-1100
Saturday, August 14h 0900-1100
Saturday, September 11th 0900-1100
Saturday, October 9th 0900-1100
Saturday, November 13th 0900-1100
Saturday, December 11th 0900-1100

Clinics will be held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation. Emergency Responders with no previous golf experience are welcome. Golf equipment is provided if needed for the clinics.

Powered by the Stand Up and Play Foundation and Hardee’s Stars For Heroes Program

For more information, or to register for monthly clinics, contact Rich O’Brien by email at richobriengolf@gmail.com or at (843) 826-0837.

“The Golf Therapy program has allowed us to trade nightmares and flashbacks for golf dreams and new friendships.”

Back Story: On September 25th, 2008 Charleston County Firefighter Paul Tumminia revived Rich O’Brien multiple times after a catastrophic accident in which he suffered a broken neck, broken back, four skull fractures, and brain damage in every lobe of his brain. On that day, Paul fought hard to keep Rich alive against all odds. This program is our way of saying thank you to the HEROES that serve and protect our communities.

Meanwhile, the other co-founder of the program is retired firefighter Josh Swindel who had a paralyzing injury sixteen years ago in the line of duty. For Josh, this is a way to help his fellow emergency responders that have been injured.

The Stand Up and Play Foundation

Is composed of individuals who donate their time and efforts to make active standing therapy a reality for everyone who uses a wheelchair. Accomplishing our mission requires traveling to potential sites, training volunteers, and purchasing supplies and equipment such as Paramobile units, standing frames, adaptive sports equipment, and much more. Your financial support will help us form an adaptive sports chapter in your community or in an underserved community. We need your help to expand our current programs and to form new ones.

  1. Your company name and logo on a Paramobile housed at a location hosting a Stand Up and Play Chapter.
  2. Your company logo and link displayed on our web-site
  3. Your company logo on our printed literature

Your generous donations allow us to continue our goal of getting all wheelchair users access to a Paramobile. The benefits to these individuals are countless, and your sponsorship is priceless.

Please contact us to discuss the different levels of giving that might be right for you.
