Winterizing Your VertaCat Adaptive Golf Cart: Tips for Long-Term Storage
As the golf season comes to a close, it’s essential to properly store your VertaCat adaptive golf cart to ensure it remains in peak condition for the next season. Whether you’re storing it for the winter or an extended period, following these steps will help maintain your cart’s performance and longevity.
#Preparation and Storage
– *Clean the cart*: Thoroughly clean the entire cart to prevent corrosion and keep it in good condition.
– *Choose a storage location*: Park the VertaCat in a dry, covered area like a garage, shed, or carport to protect it from the elements. If using a cover, choose a breathable one to prevent moisture build-up.
– *Inflate tires*: Check and adjust the tire pressure to the recommended PSI to prevent flat spots from forming during storage.
– *Use a cover*: Place a breathable, waterproof cover on the cart to protect it from dust and moisture. (A large BBQ cover works well!)
#Storage Temperature and Precautions
– *Store in a temperate environment*: If possible, store the VertaCat in an environment between 68°F and 77°F.
– *Cold storage precautions*: If storage temperatures are expected to drop below 32°F, remove the battery and store it in a climate-controlled environment to prevent damage.

#Battery Care
– *Charge or discharge the battery*: Charge or discharge the battery to approximately 60% (5-6 bars on the joystick battery indicator) before storage to extend its life.
– *Disconnect the battery charger*: Make sure to disconnect the battery charger to prevent any accidental charging or damage.
– *Power off*: Turn the key switch to the off position.
#Removing the Battery for Storage or Replacement
1. Remove the rear cover
2. Follow the critical sequence:
– Remove the data cable first (slide the red connector lock toward you, press the connector release tab, and pull the connector toward you)
– Remove the negative cable
– Remove the positive cable
– Remove the 2 battery hold-down bolts
– Slide the battery out of the frame toward you (weight 40 lbs {18 Kg})
# During Storage
– *Check periodically*: Check on the cart every few weeks to ensure the batteries are still in good condition. Some sources suggest charging them once a month during storage.
– *Re-check tires*: Periodically check the tire pressure and re-inflate as needed.
By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to keep your VertaCat adaptive golf cart in prime condition and ensure it’s ready to hit the links as soon as the weather warms up.
Stay warm and get ready to tee off soon!
